Summary

You can change the email address your Bitcoin.com Wallet app is signed in with yourself, from inside the app: back up every wallet, log out of the current account, log in with the new email address, then enable Cloud Backup again.

Before you start: back up every wallet

Before changing the email address, please write down the 12-word recovery phrase of every wallet in the app and store it somewhere safe. The recovery phrase is the only way to restore a wallet, so please do not skip this step.

To find the recovery phrase of a wallet:

  1. Open the Wallets tab and select a wallet.

  2. Tap the three dots in the top-right corner.

  3. Select Show my recovery phrase and write down the 12 words in the correct order.

Repeat this for every wallet in the app. A Cloud Backup is a useful extra layer, but it does not replace the recovery phrase. See also: How do I backup my Bitcoin.com Wallet?

Change the email address

  1. Open the More tab and select the account you are currently signed in with.

  2. Tap Log out.

  3. Log in again using your new email address. If you need help with signing in, see How to sign in to the Bitcoin.com Wallet mobile app.

  4. Go to Settings > Backup & Security and enable Cloud Backup. You will be asked to set a master password — it encrypts your backup, so please store it safely as well.

Once Cloud Backup is enabled, an encrypted backup of your wallets is created in the cloud storage linked to your new account.

A wallet is not shown after signing in

If a wallet does not appear after you sign in with the new email address, you can restore it from its 12-word recovery phrase or from your Cloud Backup.

Important

  • Log out, do not delete. The account screen also has a Delete option. It deletes the account and is not part of changing the email address — see How do I delete my wallet/account? before using it.

  • Never share your recovery phrase or master password with anyone, including our support team. Bitcoin.com will never ask you for them. See Do not share your 12-word recovery phrases.

  • If your old email address was compromised and you also see transactions you did not make, treat the wallet itself as compromised rather than only the email address: stop using it and move any remaining funds to a wallet created on a device you know is clean.
