What is Tron and how to use it?

Written by Ciaran

Tron is a fast, low-cost blockchain network designed for transferring digital assets, running decentralized applications (DApps), and supporting smart contracts. It is known for its high transaction speeds and extremely low network fees, making it a popular choice for payments and stablecoin transfers.

The Tron network supports thousands of tokens built using the TRC-20 token standard, including USDT (Tether), one of the most widely used stablecoins in the crypto ecosystem.

The Bitcoin.com Wallet supports Tron, allowing users to securely send, receive, store, and use assets on the Tron network directly from the multichain wallet.

Why use Tron?

Users choose Tron because it offers:

  • Very low transaction fees

  • Fast transaction confirmations

  • Support for popular stablecoins like USDT (TRC-20)

  • Access to decentralized applications (DApps)

  • A reliable network for transferring digital assets

What assets can I use on Tron?

Tron uses TRX as its native cryptocurrency for paying network fees and interacting with the blockchain. In addition to TRX, the network supports many TRC-20 tokens, including USDT and other compatible digital assets.

Important: Assets on Tron are separate from the same assets on other blockchain networks. For example, USDT on Tron (TRC-20) is different from USDT on Ethereum (ERC-20) or USDT on BNB Smart Chain (BEP-20).

Always ensure you select the correct network when sending or receiving crypto. Sending funds on the wrong network may result in permanent loss of funds.

Using Tron in the Bitcoin.com Wallet

With the Bitcoin.com Wallet, you can:

  • Create a Tron wallet

  • Send and receive TRX and TRC-20 tokens

  • Connect to Tron DApps using WalletConnect (where supported)

  • Swap supported assets

  • Manage your multichain portfolio in one app

The Bitcoin.com Wallet is self-custodial, meaning only you control your funds and recovery phrase.

What is TRX used for?

TRX is the native cryptocurrency of the Tron network. It is used to:

  • Pay network fees

  • Send assets

  • Swap supported tokens

  • Interact with decentralized applications (DApps)

  • Interact with smart contracts

Even when sending TRC-20 tokens such as USDT, you may need TRX in your wallet to cover network fees.

Is Tron the same as Ethereum?

No. Tron is a separate blockchain network with its own infrastructure, native cryptocurrency (TRX), and token standard (TRC-20).

While Tron and Ethereum both support smart contracts and decentralized applications, assets on one network cannot be used on the other unless they are transferred using a supported bridge or exchange.

This means:

  • Tron addresses are different from Ethereum addresses.

  • Tron uses the TRC-20 token standard instead of Ethereum's ERC-20 standard.

  • Transactions occur on the Tron network, not Ethereum

  • Assets must remain on the same network unless bridged or transferred through a supported service.
