What is Concordium?

Concordium is a regulatory-grade Layer-1 blockchain with identity and trust built into the protocol. It provides infrastructure for verified humans and AI agents to interact securely while preserving privacy through zero-knowledge proofs. Every account is linked to a verified real-world identity through regulated identity providers without exposing personal information on-chain.

Concordium supports payments, digital assets, enterprise applications, and emerging AI-driven use cases by combining protocol-level identity with low, predictable transaction fees and fast finality. Learn more about Concordium here.

What is CCD?

CCD is the native token of the Concordium network. You need CCD to pay transaction fees when sending CCD or interacting with the Concordium blockchain, including smart contract operations. CCD is also used for staking and participating in network governance.

Transaction fees on Concordium are referenced in EUR for predictability. Standard Concordium transactions carry a fee of €0.01, which is automatically converted into CCD and displayed in your wallet before you confirm the transaction. Learn more in our guide to CCD (Concordium) Fees.

Why Use Concordium?

Concordium combines low transaction fees, fast finality, and protocol-level identity verification. This makes it suitable for payments, digital assets, enterprise applications, and emerging AI-driven use cases.

When software acts autonomously, the counterparty needs assurance that a verified human authorised the action. Concordium provides this assurance by enabling verified humans and verified AI agents to operate on the same trusted identity layer while preserving privacy through zero-knowledge proofs.

As AI agents operate across services and markets, payments require more than wallet signatures. Concordium enables participants to prove they meet predefined conditions before transacting, while counterparties can enforce trust and compliance requirements directly within the transaction flow. This allows agent-to-agent (A2A) interactions to scale without fragmented identity checks or unnecessary data exposure.

Its combination of low fees, predictable transaction costs, fast finality, and identity-backed infrastructure makes Concordium well suited for high-frequency automated interactions where speed, compliance, and verifiable trust are essential.
