Pending transactions on Base

Written by Ciaran

Summary

If your transaction on the Base network is pending, it usually means the transaction has been broadcast to the network but has not yet been confirmed on the blockchain.

This article explains:

  • Why Base transactions become pending

  • How transaction fees affect confirmation times

  • Why pending transactions can block newer transactions

  • What you can do if your transaction appears stuck

Why is my Base transaction pending?

Transactions on Base may remain pending for a number of reasons, including:

  • The network fee (gas fee) was too low

  • The Base network is congested

  • A previous transaction from the same wallet is still pending

  • Temporary wallet synchronization issues

Base is an Ethereum-compatible (EVM) network. Like Ethereum, transactions are prioritized based on the gas fee attached to them. Transactions with higher fees are generally confirmed faster.

If the gas fee used for your transaction was too low during periods of high activity, the transaction may take longer to process.

How long do Base transactions take?

Most Base transactions are confirmed within seconds or a few minutes.

However, during periods of heavy network activity, transactions may remain pending for longer depending on:

  • Network congestion

  • The gas fee used

  • The status of previous transactions from the same wallet

Why do pending transactions block newer transactions?

Base transactions are processed in order using something called a nonce.

Each transaction sent from a wallet receives a sequential number. If one transaction remains pending, any newer transactions from the same wallet may also remain pending until the earlier transaction is confirmed, cancelled, or replaced.

For example:

  • Transaction #5 is pending

  • Transaction #6 cannot confirm until #5 completes

This behavior is normal on EVM-compatible networks like Base and Ethereum.

Can I cancel or speed up a pending transaction?

In some cases, yes.

You may be able to:

  • Speed up the transaction by rebroadcasting it with a higher gas fee

  • Cancel the transaction by replacing it with another transaction using the same nonce and a higher fee

Whether this is possible depends on the current state of the transaction.

What should I do if my transaction is stuck?

Try the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Wait a few minutes and refresh the wallet

  2. Check the transaction status using a Base blockchain explorer

  3. Make sure you have enough ETH on Base to pay network fees

  4. Check whether another transaction from the same wallet is still pending

  5. Attempt to speed up or cancel the transaction if supported

  6. Restart and update your Bitcoin.com Wallet app to the latest version

Important information

  • Pending transactions are not final

  • A transaction is only complete once it is confirmed on the blockchain

  • In some cases, transactions may eventually fail and the funds will remain in the sending wallet

  • Avoid repeatedly resending the same transaction, as this can create additional pending transactions and delays
